The Magic of DIY - Purses!!

~ Inspirations ~

Alexander Mcqueen Clutch hmmmm love it!!

Hey Loves!
Wow I just wanted to say THANKYOU!! Thanks for all your comments
My last outfit post had 19 comments, that's incredible!
So thanks :)

So last night I did a little thrifting and came home with two awesome bags!! Well they were sort of ugly but definitely amazing DIY material!!
They were both under $5 dollars.

The first one I did was a dove grey bag, quick ugly initially. I wanted to stud the flap in the shape of the union jack (pictured above)
The first thing I did was cut off the thick leather strap.

I roughly drew with pencil the lines that I would need to stud.

I then started to stud along the longs using different
types of studs for different parts of the flag.

The centre of the lines I used a smaller stud and spaced them out.

I studded until just over where the flap bend so
it would look completed and not cut off.

After all the studding I added a simple chain as a new handle.
The bag is totally usable as a purse or a clutch and I LOVE the finished results!
It took about an hour and a half to complete and it is definitely a work out for your
lil fingers! They get pretty bruised! haha but the results are soo worth it!!

The studs I got from an ebay store. They have really
good prices and are super good quality.
Alot better than any craft store..

The second bag I DIYed was so much easier! lol
This bag already had a lot going for it. I loved the shape - its super structed,
and totally fifties style. It was gorgeous white snakeskin so in for spring!
The only thing that cheapened the bag was the ugly handle.

That was a simple fix, however. I cut it off and instead
attached this amazing belt I also thrifted for 4 dollars!

It has this absolutely gorgeous floral detailing along a third of it
and the rest is just a gold chain and matches the clasp perfectly!

I love how it adds so much interest from the back of an outfit!
What do you think?!

I'd love to hear your thoughts!!

Lace nails DIY!

Hey darlings!
So the other night I tried the lace nails, and it was pretty sweet!
I wanted to do black lace with a shimmery gold nail polish underneath,
but the black lace was hard to find - who would have thought!
So I did it kind of opposite and it had such a cool effect!
I did a dark blacky-blue nail with a shiny gold lace on top.

This is the lace I found. I just got it from the dollar store I think it was supposed to be a doily or something. Can't you just see it in some old woman's house lol

So the first thing I did was trim my nails down, I think this look definitely works best with a shorter nail :)

Then I painted my nails the dark colour, it only needed one coat and let it dry completely.

I pre-cut all the lace pieces to match my fingers but left them longer then I needed them to be.
To attach the lace you need to use a thick top coat and put quite a lot of it on.
Then just stick the precut pieces and hold down until its all dry. Making sure that you
press down on all the corners. Then just trim the ends and voila!

And this is the finished product!
Pretty sweet eh!?
Let me know what you think and if you give it a try!

And she shines like the sun

So yesterday we presented my mum with the dress, and needless to say she was blown away! I was soo happy with the end result. Here are some pictures of the whole process:

This is Maegan, she was working on her headband :)

This is me, and I apologize for my sorry state.
At this point I was assembling the dress out of the white cotton jersey.
I didn't use a pattern, instead I copied one of my mothers basic t-shirt dress,
and then made some small adjustments like the 3/4 sleeves, and a scoop neck because my mum doesn't like boat necks on herself.

This is the sweater dress complete! :)

The dying process was a lot of fun and probably my favourite part of making this dress. We got dye from Micheal's that was in a spray bottle. Then to create the tie dye effect we twisted and scrunched the fabric. And to keep some areas really white we used strips of fabric to cover them. We also layered pink over orange to give it a richer hue.

Ironing on the crystals was also fun, they are soo pretty. We bought Swarovski iron on crystal from Micheal's and then applied them along the white pieces.

All done! My beautiful mum tried it on right away and then wore it out for dinner that night :)

So mission accomplished.
What do you think, was it a success?
All in all it only took 3 nights to recreate the dress and about 100$.
If you can't sew you could always buy a white sweater dress,
and do the dying and applying of crystals yourself.
If you try it out, I'd love to know how it goes!
